Conceived aboard the Beloved Stranger off the coast of Southern Mexico and born in West Oakland in 2014, Pistachio is a band whose theatric live set combines tales of foreign lands and metaphysical exploration sung in 3-part harmony with infectious and danceable grooves ranging from latin to funk to reggae. Pistachio is constantly traversing the country, sharing their music and enthusiasm for living with new audiences.
Hostel, organic farm, and concert venue Ritmo del Rio is the physical center of The Beloved Stranger. Nestled in the heart of Antioquia, Colombia, this destination hostel is quickly becoming a meeting hub for local and international musicians thanks to its pristine setting and organic cuisine. The owners also spearhead local reforestation and community development projects.
The Beloved Stranger Documentary
The Beloved Stranger is a film in parts documenting a sailing voyage from the San Francisco Bay to the Caribbean coast of Colombia, undertaken over five months in 2013-2014. The crew of seven friends, a cat and dog, had little to no experience but set out to build an eco hostel in the Colombian rainforest. The virgin voyagers are met with mishap at every turn, but an unquenchable lust for life propels them forward.
Cuban New Year
January 2017 will find Strangers Antony D'Avirro and Devin Hollister, along with a group of close friends, on a diplomatic mission to establish an exchange of jams and good vibes between the island nation of Cuba and their own West Oakland. They aim to do this by traveling across the island filming and recording the music they hear, performing their own music, and writing new material inspired by the whole experience. Stay tuned as we publish videos of the entire trip throughout the month of January.
