It has been almost three years since we sailed the Beloved Stranger from the Berkeley Marina for the last time, and my mind reels trying to recall all of the formative things that have happened for me in that space. The place I am now, is not where I foresaw myself then, and it's one hundred percent because of the boat trip. The five months I spent on the Beloved and in Latin America changed the course of my life, at least for the present. I haven't stopped wandering, exploring, and adventuring since, and I can't imagine the day when I don't have some unknown destination on the horizon.
One unintended consequence to that is that the Beloved Stranger documentary is not yet completed. But, I feel I have reached a good point in which I can now devote the energy to the project that it needs to take off. In the coming year, I hope to have assembled the some 40 hours of amazing footage and 20ish songs into something coherent and representative of the way we strangers look back on this period in our lives. Here's the trailer I made for the documentary.
It's going to be composed of 5 thematic chapters and broken up into multiple parts. It will also prominently feature the music that the crew and I wrote along the way. The goal, is to use art to capture the events and feelings of the trip in a way that just filming it can't, and hopefully if we do this well enough, you all watching it will feel those things too, and be able to apply the themes and takeaways to events in your own wandering lives.
